Austrian Internet provider Telenor magnet acquires Business ISP and changes name to Nextra
Telenor magnet has started its second phase on its way to becoming the most important Business Service Provider in Austria. Telenor magnet, which started its services in 1994, is now changing its name to Nextra, thus taking a further step in the internationalization of the Austrian Internet Provider market. Nextra is to supply Internet services to business customers all over Europe via one of the biggest and most modern Backbones called Nextbone.
Nextra is demonstrating its ambition in the business market by acquiring Telecom.at, an ISP with mainly business customers. As a result of the acquisition, nearly all major banks in Austria will soon be connected through Nextra. Telecom.at was previously part of Spardat, a specialist for banking software and e-business with more than 700 employees and 2 bill. ATS revenue.
"Nextra’s vision is that all applications will be based on IP in the near future," says Managing Director Peter Müller. "There will only be one single cable for all applications: Telephony, Data, and the Internet."
Nextra aims to establish a strong position in the Austrian business market, and as such there has been a lot of focus on technical and personnel improvements. "We have engaged several experts over the last weeks and months, and have built our own Austrian-wide infrastructure," says Müller. "Now we can provide our customers with one of the most modern and reliable networks in Austria."
The former Internet-pioneer magnet started its service in 1994 with an E-mail Online-System called magnetCITY". The breakthrough came in 1996 when the first unlimited access was launched which made magnet one of the top 3 Providers in Austria. Magnet was acquired by the Nextra Group in November 1998.
